I am trying to convert a wav file to midi. The problem is that the software requires that the wav be mono. How can I convert a wav stereo to wav mono. The wav is piano so the resulting mono should be ok.

open the wav in Headac3he and under the options tab on the side, check only one output channel then save the wav.

    To Grimey:

I tried your method and it worked as far as giving me a mono file, but the wav to midi program detected polyphony and rejected it. Guess I'll have to do a little studying to figure this out. Thanks for your help though.

Sorry about that. You can try this program: http://www.pluto.dti.ne.jp/~araki/amazingmidi/

I've never tried it, I just searched for it on google. but it's freeware. it claims to be able to convert wav's to midi's. give it a try and let us know how it works.

    To Grimey,

Thanks for putting me on to "Amazing Midi", I think it will do nicely. It compares favorably with some of the expensive programs that won't accept polyphonic input. As would be expected the output from "Amazing" contains a lot of extraneous notes but with the help from a good midi editor like Cakewalk it should clean up ok.
