  1. Help me please!

I dont know if this could be a hardware problem or software problem but when backing up a dvd movie using dvd shrink 1.7 the film seems to be getting to about 60-70% before my laptop just completely shuts off!

The laptop seems to be getting very warm during the backup process but this is not unusual.

Please if you have had any similar problems or know the answer please let me know.

    Thanks

    Craig

Get a monitor for your cpu temp and watch it while processing, its probably shutting down to prevent overheating damage.

    Free Monitor->

You might want to apply some thermal paste to the top of the processor, and get a better cpu fan.

    spec is here : http://www.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_322541/113501.html

My mate who seems to know a lot about computers said that there is a virus doing the rounds too but i'm convinced it has something to do with the processor overheating.

I dont think it is virus related, but if you dont have virus protection then you need to get some and make sure to update the virus definitions weekly at least.

The last 'big' virus was sasser which would reboot your computer, but you should see a message about lsass.exe having problems or something and it will reboot in 60seconds, I dont remember the exact message, but you get the point.

Have you got a monitor installed and watched your temps yet???

  9. Hi,

I have anti-virus software and update the definitions weekly so probably not a virus.
I downloaded the monitor and currently installing it so that i can keep an eye on temps but dont know the make of the motherboard and cant find it on the net.

    Aargh

  10. Hi again,

Just found that the motherboard is an Intel 845MP however it is not supported in the motherboard list for that monitor program, what can i do now?

  11. Get a laptop cooler, some of these keep your laptop off the desk, which you can try too without a cooler, to give it air circulation under it.
