A new version of Realplayer has been released, and if you can get through to the free version with your bank balance intact, it does work. Interestingly it claims to replace Quicktime completely and a quick check shows it will play MPEG-2. Of course, it isn't QT Pro, and it is uglier and busier in its design at a time when media players should be getting less intrusive and more seamless.

Nothing will make we switch from QT Pro, other than a newer version of QT Pro.

Well, if L. Ron decided to create a media player it would be Realplayer. "it's only a media player", he would say as it tries to take over your computer and your life.

Let me tell you about realplayer.


A long time ago, before I bought a stand alone DVD player, I used a computer and decoder card hooked to my TV for playing DVD's. Then I got some broadband, and it was a natural to try streaming video on my TV. This was great! Then one night, while playing a DVD, I noticed activity on my modem when a chapter started playing. Didn't matter what disk I had going, every disk, at every chapter caused activity. So naturally, I blasted the hard drive, and loaded everything from scratch. OS (win98se), and drivers, decoder and drivers. Then played a movie... No activity. Then I had to install realplayer again. Played DVD, and suddenly activity on the modem was back at every chapter point. That was the end of my using realplayer. And before someone asks, no it wasn't some hacked version, it was the free player straight from real networks. This was about 4 years ago, but I still won't touch realplayer.

I never liked Real Player. I can't see anything but blocks moving in real media files, so I'd rather stick to QT.

I installed the new version, seems to work great. If you like to watch Free clips of Video News RealPlayer is a necessary evil. You can Kill the Evil by installing the indispensable, but not free, program Little Snitch. You will be surprised by how many programs attempt to reach out and touch someone these days. Just install LS, and their touching days are over. 'Deny Forever', gotta love it

He also used to be a half-decent science fiction author before he came over all religious. Battlefield Earth was one of his, it's not too bad apart from a couple of far-fetched plot developments (the terrible Travolta movie of the same name has only a passing resemblance to the novel).

L. Ron Was a great Sci-fi author and scientology is much misunderstood.

if you follow what he tried to teach it was that our personality traits are built into us at a subconcious level, I believe he called them engrams.

Example, all your life as a child, your parents tell you your stupid, you hear them yelling as you sleep "That boy will always be stupid".

According to L. Ron, you will now exhibit a lowered iq and have trouble with learning. Why ? Because you have been emprinted with the STUPID engram. Scientology was supposed to help break the bonds of negative or harmful engrams and enhance or rebuild positive.

Sort of like BE THE BALL, the power of positive thinking, etc...
