A friend thinks he's going to be able to backup his pressed DVDs using the Panasonic standalone burner he's getting this week. Not sure what model but I assume it contains an internal hardrive.

    I told him very unlikely.
    Is this correct ?

  2. As far as I am concerned there is no player/recorder that can do this at the MOMENT, whether there is some new fangled recorder coming out I am not sure.

Not that I've ever heard of, no. Not even new not-yet-out models.

  4. I suppose it would be possible to copy the main movie by playing out of another DVD player an to the recorder via the usual analog RGB/S-Video/component connections, assuming he can overcome macrovision. Won't be a true DVD backup tho.
