This is so frustrating. I have tried 5 times to back up Along Came Polly. The first time I just used DVD Shrink to shrink and burn. Near the end of the movie, everything pixelates momentarily and then freezes completely. I checked the original disc for smudges or scratches. It is a flawless disc. It plays perfectly in my DVD player.
I tried ripping the DVD to my HD with Decryptor and then using Shrink to shrink and burn. Same results as before.
Finally, I thought there might be a problem with the burning feature in Shrink. So I used Nero 6 to burn the files that were output by Shrink. Same results again.
I tried burning at 2X rather than 4. No dice.
I turned data verification on in Nero. It tells me that anywhere from 1 to 3 files are inaccesible.
What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
Thanks

I'm sorry, but what is DMA? What does it do, and which prgram should I disable it in? Thanks
-
direct memory access=dma
It allows your burner to access ram directly.
Go to your start menu----->settings----->control panel------>system----->hardware tab----->device manager---->IDE ata /Atapi Controllers------>right click primary ide channel------>select properties tab------->advanced settings tab------>under transfer, it should say Dma. -
Hey rock. This is a quote from another post involving enabling DMA.

Buy some better discs, dude.

I agree with Gurm and Treebeard. Either get better media or if you need to use these "bad" discs up, set DVDShrink to transcode to a smaller MB size. I think the default size is 4464MB You might want to set it to 200 - 300 MB less. You can find this setting, I believe in preferences (not sure 'cause I'm not in front of my home computer.)

I agree, end of disc crapping out is a media issue.
I see this when I use a DVD-RW to test my burns. But when I copy to the DVD-+R, I don't see the issue(good media I guess).
Try what louv68 says and lower your target size. I think 200-300MB is overkill, but it will definatley let you know if thats the problem or not. -

Now, inevitably, someone will come in here and proclaim that Ritek sucks, and that PRINCO are the way to go. *sigh*

Actually, I use PRINCO discs. Are these not good? I have burned over 200 DVD's with these discs and never once had a problem. Could there be any other causes for my problem?
I changed the DMA settings like the first person suggested, but that didn't help. -
I think it may be a media problem.
I use Matrix (Taiyo Yuden) and have backed up Along Came Polly hundreds of times. I sell them on the street for $5, with a money-back guarantee, and haven't had a return yet (I'm at the same spot every day).
Remember the old Latin proverb:
"Erut si evoba eht fo enon"

Not exactly in the spirt of the AUP, is it?
