  1. I have a xvid movie I want to convert to mpeg one, but every time I open it, it starts to use up 100% of CPU usage and crashes the programe im using, and if I just click on it to play it, explorer starts to use up 100% CPU usage, if I put it into TMPGEnc, it wants to take about 7 hours to encode, which usually a movie only takes me about 20 to 40 mins, any ideas as to why this is happening, any info would be much appreciated, this is something i haven't come across before, and I have been doing movies for quite some time now., thanks in advance for any info.

  2. Forgot to say, when I encoded a small bit in TMPGEnc, there was no sound, so I need to be able to extract the audio in vdub first, but i can't while its using all that cpu, as it just crashes, the only prog that will take it is TMPGEnc, but thats no good without the sound..

  3. Your Xvid file is a little corrupt and Windows is freaking out. There's a registry fix around here somewhere that will take care of the problem.

Or you can go here for a discription of the problem and instructions on how to fix it:

Are you sure ?? Are your comp spec up to date .

I would have thought you'd be lucky to get real time with an 1800 processor, unless you are talking about 15 minute movies.

  6. I managed to figure out the registry fix, but now it wont encode, is it a dead video, or is there a way round it? as it plays ok in divx player, it seems such a shame to bin it 8)

  7. Xvid movies have a list of keyframes at the end of the file. If the end of the file is missing you get the kind of symptoms you initially reported. And the file usually won't play properly in Windows Media Player.

Try using AVICodec to verify the codecs used.

Try the player from Divx.com -- it can play Divx and Xvid files with missing key frame lists (you won't be able to seek though).

If it is an Xvid file with a missing keyframe list, try using DivFix -- that program can rebuild the list.

  9. There are often incompatabilities with different versions of Xvid and Divx that cause that sort (green video) of problem. You could try an older or newer version of the codecs. Since switching to the 1.0 version of Xvid (released about a month ago) I haven't seen many problems.
