I have exactly the same problem with a divx5 file I have. It only plays fine in VLC. The wierd thing is, it doesn't play any video even in Divx player! Go figure! In all media players except VLC, there is only audio, and no video...just a black screen. I still don't know how to fix it yet. Can some1 plz help?

  3. So far I've had very little luck working with DivX 5 movies. Have either of you tried converting or playing them in VirtualDub? Another shot in the dark would be to uninstall all DivX codecs and install only D5-- with D3, D4 and D5 all installed, your media player might be jumping trying to figure out what codec to use.

i have had this problem a few times. each tie i have ONLT had divx 5.x codec installed not 3 and 4 aswell. USUALLY uninstalling the codec rebooting then reinstalling it then rebooting again fixes it but sometimes even that doesnt. last time i had to do a full reinstall of windows to fix it so i would also like to hear of a fix

I'd rather like to hear of a symptom and cause than a fix. More description of the problems, perhaps even a logical reasoning behind it, and it'd be a lot easier to troubleshoot.
