hi friends,
i don't know where to start this thread, i think here could be right.
ok, the point is: i have some very old 16mm films.
10 years ago i converted this films to VHS with a camcorder, playing to a white screen, and recording with the camcorder, but the resulting tape is not so good as i wanted, i think because the different frame rate between 16mm and ntsc.
what i want to do now is to digitalize this films. i have a D8 camcorder, and i want to know if anybody does this work, and how to resolve this 'frame rate issue'.
thank you very much !
best regards,
nachomur

if you can find a projector with adjustable speed, you can slow down or speed up the 16mm to a frame rate compatable with your DV camera, and then rework it to the proper frame-rate digitally.

nachomur,
I've just converted a few 16mm films from my old collection.
I located a nearby college with a large 16mm collection, & found out
that they had a 16mm filmchain. (converts film to video signal).
They were cooperative, and with their help I was able to feed their
signal into my recorder. The results were great.
You may wish to look about in your area.

option 1 - get the 16mm reels sent off to a movie house for conversion or a local community college. This is the best way but may not be the cheapest. If you send it to a movie house they will do color correction for you as well.
option 2 - if you dont send them off and want to use your camcorder the best way is to adjust the camcorder. If you have a newer camcorder you can add the effect of flash or strobe or set it to nighttime, this will slow down the shutter speed of the camera. This works great if you have a computer screen or a tv in a shoot. -
thanks for your answers !
i'm trying to do myself, i don't have budget to pay for this job, and here this service could be very expensive...
what a device is a 'filmchain' ? i never heard about it...
i own a D8 Sony TRV-350, i'll try to use the effects included in the camcorder.
do you mean that using 'nightshot' can i improve my movie captures ?
thanks again !

nachomur,
A filmchain is a 16mm projector that
projects into a TV camera. It is built as a single unit,
and is optimized to convert a film to video.

at the first time i converted this films to vhs, i bought a 'PRISMA' (i don't know how it names @ english, i don't know if it is a cheap kind of filmchain or telecine), but i didn't have good results, the image has 'PHANTOMS' (don't know if it's the english name).
i can't remember yet the brand of this PRISMA, i'll see...
thanks again !
