    That indicates that you have a CD inserted in the drive. Try removing the CD and running the installer again.

    It appears that a few people are having trouble with this drive when the installed Firmware is Apple's A227;
    One person's view

    Other people had trouble that was solved by logging in as root and running the updater repeatedly until it ran normally.

    Make sure you get the Pioneer 104's FW package 1.40 from this site;
    3 - Not-official firmware 1.40, dézoné, engraves all Dvd-r in 2x
    Direct Download Link

    There are threats that a new and improved series of Patchers will be available soon

  11. Do us all a favor will you? I've been trying to get my 104 to burn at 2X forever and still, with all the patches I've tried, and using good media I still can only get 1X out of my burner. When anyone sees these new patches, will you please put an ATTN 104 users,and post them? That would be badass, cause I'm gonna go crazy

    from Apple's 8x media info:

    "A 2x SuperDrive writes to 4x and 8x media at 1x, so to obtain the fastest DVD recording performance for your 2x SuperDrive, we recommend using 2x DVD-R media to write at full 2x DVD-R speed."

    you will need to buy 2x media to burn at 2x, apparently.
    some have reported success with ProDisc media.
