Somehow my Sony DVD does not play a VCD that I have. When I look at the files on my computer I noticed that the .DAT file is named AVESQ01.DAT as compare to MUSIC01.DAT which my set top DVD player can play. So I have two questions. First, why is my DVD player not able to play a AVSEQ01.DAT file? Second and this question is more important, using Nero, how do I change the file name to MUSIC01.DAT instead of AVSEQ01.DAT? Somehow when I drag the .DAT file over to the MPEGAV folder in Nero, the file automatically changed to AVSEQ01.DAT regardless of what the file name of the .DAT file I initially have in my folder. How do I solve this problem?

    Many thanks for any suggestions!

The reason it is renamed when you burn is because it is a video file. Nero needs to find this file to make a compliant videocd. Are you sure your player can play videocd's?

Yes, I'm positive that my set top dvd player is able to play VCD. I have several VCD that plays on my DVD player.
But it seemed that any AVSEQ01.DAT file is not playable in my DVD player.

The aveseq01.dat file is the video file on the videocd, so I am confused. All videocd's have this file. If your player plays vcd, then it will play it.

The AVSEQ01.DAT contains the video and sound of the vcd. You can extract the mpg using isobuster and save the mpg to your hard drive.
With that mpg you can burn it to a cd as a vcd or a dvd-r as a dvd (if you author it ).

The VCD spec requires that the .DAT file must be named AVSEQ**.DAT or MUSIC**.DAT. For a DVD player to be VCD compliant it must play both AVSEQ**.DAT and MUSIC**.DAT.

Thank you for all the replies. I'll try to convert all mine to mpeg and re-record but I'm afraid it's going to be AVSEQ**.DAT again with Nero. Like I said, somehow my dvd player don't play AVSEQ**.DAT so I need a VCD burning program that will allow me to burn into MUSIC**.DAT vcd.
