Hello! im have a problem! i use to compress the movies i record, to SVCD in TMPGEnc, but now the SVCD filter in TMPGEnc has disappeared. So now i haft to pay for it.

Then i started to compress the movies to xvid ( thats the format i wanted them in the beginning, becuse i have heard that the quality can be really nice and that it dont take to much space).
But my xvid movies gets really bad.

My camera is a Panasonic NV-22, if that is some help.

Can someone plz help to understand how a get some nice quality. and i dont want the movies to take to much space.
i have heard that you can get really nice quality with xvid in Adobe Premiere Pro, but the program is so hard :/

(exuse my english, i hope you understand what i mean).

  3. I'd love to assist you. The problem is that I don't know what you're asking. Do you want help using TMPGEnc? Do you want recommendations on other software encoders? Are you having problems with playback or encoding? Provide a little more detail and it'd be easier for us to help.

Find a good hardware mpeg2 capture card (I used a Dazzle DVC II), author it with Tmpgenc Author and burn it with Nero, a 2 hour movie takes about 2 hours 30 minutes from capture to author to burn. worked well for me for about 300 movies. Not sure if that was what you were asking.

(I prefer to skip the AVI to MPEG2 software conversion process)

I dont think I can help as I dont have a video or digital camera to use but I will try and explain what is required so all can understand if some people are having trouble.

I think this is what is wanted.

Eriksson has a camera (not sure if digital or analog).

Wants to capture or copy footage from camera to the PC. Wants to know basically what is the best file type to have the footage in so the file size is small but the quality is good.

Correct me if I am wrong Eriksson.

If the camera is analog then I suggest capture in avi (huge file size) but you keep the quality and it is best file for later editting. As far as I believe there is always a trade off. If you want the best quality you are going to need the file size.

I know alot will disagree with me but that is the nature of forums.

when you compare the two, a DivX or XviD AVI will be much smaller given the same quality as MPEG-1(VCD/DVD) or MPEG-2 (SVCD/DVD).

Do you just want these to watch on your computer, or in a set top DVD player ?

If it is just for your computer, I would investigate the DivX/XviD options.
    If in doubt, Google it.

im not really shore if i want it on DVD, or my computer

I thougt that i can do like this:

i compress all the movies a got into SVCD, and if i later want them in Xvid, i can just "recompress" them into Xvid?
But then i have heard that i can get bad quallity if i "recompress" SVCD into Xvid? is that true?
I dont mind if it quallity just gets a little bit poorer.

Did you have the trial version? If you did the mpeg2 feature is disabled after awhile to get you to buy the program unless you live in the future.

There always is a loss in quality when you re-encode, how much depends on how much you compress. You can probably compress an SVCD into divx-avi and get a file size about 1/2 of the original with quality pretty similar to the original.

Unless you buy the program, you cannot make svcds. The mpeg2 encoding feature expired.
