How to recover corrupt file

Hi,
I downloaded 2 move files which have since been removed from the site.
I downloaded 2 files in the format avseq01.dat format which is 750MB. When i open it in WMP it says playtime is 1hr 10 mins and it runs for 1hr 10mins.
The other file avseq05.dat (not related to the previous file) is 732 MB. I got downloaded completey. When i opn it it says 1hr 05 mins as playtime but it only plays till 40 mins. Though the WMP counter says 1he.05 mins. After 40 mins it just freezes.
I know the file got donwloaded correctly and the size is correct since i have moved it to zip drives and then m harddisk and the file saize remains the same. It looks like the second file though downlaoded correctly has got corrupted, how do i fix it..

Tried it, does not work, usually WMP hangs after playing 40 mins, now it crashes with the messag saying memory referenced cannot be read

If the video is available commercially, buy it. Save yourself the headache of downloading crappy quality conversions.

Since we're assuming that the video is public domain, simply "find" it somewhere and copy it. DVD works best.

Problem is that this is a movie i found on the internet which i want (buy or whatever), when it starts there are no credits and it ends half way due to the corrupt file). I dont recognize any of the characters so cant get the movie name. I tried imdb search with the character name but with imdb you can put only one name and it gives tons and tons of results, so i either need to restore the file or find a way to figure out the movie name so that i can buy it.
Is there a site where i can find a list of all actors and atresses with their pictures, once i have that i may be able to use imdb to get the movie name..
