  1. Is there a program that captures in DVD format with ac3? Currently I have to capture in avi or mpeg and then use Ulead Media Studio Pro to create a file that will compress with ac3 audio.

    Hello,
    I believe you need a soundcard with a dolby digital input jack (fiber optic). I have a wintv pvr250 card and it's ac3 encode option is faded out (not accessible). I blieve it's because of licensing and I think you need the digital input.

    I know some set top dvd recorders capture in ac3. I get some tape dubs from friends and on the computer it reads as ac3.

    Check it out but I'd say you'd need a digital input on your soundcard.
    Good luck.

    I think Ulead VS8 with new plug-in

    Note that crap ATI MMC doesn't do that.

    Hello,
    Hi Zetti, Do you know if any of these work with hardware mpeg encoders?(like the hauppauge wintv pvr250?) Just curious, I'll take a peak at these later. Thanks again.

    P.S. How much space saving can ac3 have for a 2 hour mpeg encoding?(versus mpg audio)

    I think none of these;

    HW encoders (like mine PCTV Deluxe) generally works only with bundled in sw that can "talk" to the board EEPROM and receive its USB stream;

    WAV is 1536 kbps;
    AC3 can be whatever you want, generally 256 kbps is OK even for music, so........

    Hello,
    Hi Zetti,
    Pretty much what I thought. Although, I just got the v1 golf analysis software for my father and it read my card! It actually would take a video camera with a live recording stream. Anyway, I might try ripping the audio and reencoding it to ac3 to save space. That might let me record at a higher bitrate for long projects. Thanks again.

  7. Thanks! I might try Ulead's Plug in, although last time I asked them if it encodes in ac3 with the plug in they never answered me.
