Apparently cigarette packs in Australia are going to start having pictures of cancer ridden lungs on them.

They've been doing that in Canada for a while. This one's my favourite:

If you are like me and think that this in particular is disgusting and that the "war on smoking" is both dishonest and a violation of personal rights, check out this website:

That's hilarious. I can see millions of grown men in the world equating limp ashes with their dicks. Great public service message.

    i think that's pretty funny.

personally i don't agree with smoking, and if people didn't do it our hospitals wouldn't be as busy and nor would the fire service. we also have a stupidly high level of asthma sufferers here, attributed to parents smoking.

  6. I only smoke very occasionally, even then it's usually a nice cigar. I won't become hooked, I just do it for enjoyment.

I would have thought there would be a response to the NHS adverts where they show arteries beign squeezed, or when people in their 30s are filmed in what looks like their final hours telling people how they regret smoking.

Having said that, I get the impression that the general public would rather remain in ignorance. It'll never happen to them...

well with folks like george telling us smoking doesn't give anyone cancer (because he hasn't got it and smokes like a chimney) the public aren't going to listen to scientists.

I have smoked, but it's less frequent than when i drink, and that's not very often.

Yeah, and it's just so easy to quit too. Why, with it costing $10/pack here, hell, I enjoy spending my money like that.

People who don't smoke and think it's so simple to stop should stfu and quit their whining. If it were a simple case of stopping, nobody would do it. Nicotine addiction is a problem, and it's hard to overcome completely. Most people take 7-8 attempts before they can actually kick the habit. I've tried 3 times in the last 10 years to no avail.

Blame the fire department and hospital stuff on the stupid ******** that drink and drive, or beat their wives or other idiotic crap like that.

Perhaps you just don't have much willpower?

Well i'd rather they're helping someone who has fallen victim to one of your drunk drivers, or rescuing a family whose home is ablaze from faulty electrical equipment than someone with self afflicted cancer/doesn't know how to extinguish a cigarette.

I smoked a pack a day for 10 years before I quit cold-turked on July 3, 1997. I haven't touched the stuff since. My withdrawl symptoms were very minor, nowhere near what people had warned me I'd go through.

I think a lot of it is mental. If you tell yourself it's going to be diffucult, it will be. I never gave it much thought, and the worst I had to deal with was the first 48 hours.

It is simple. You throw the fags in the bin, grit your teeth and ride it out. I've seen friends do it, it isn't exactly pleasant for them but they got over it, and now do not smoke.

As for whining, I'm only stating my opinion. This is a forum.

    How about this one?

Personally, I think those that say anything about personal rights and smoke don't know what the heck they are talking about. If you could smoke like you drink a glass of water, then it won't be too much of a bother to others. Unfortunately, on the large scale, smokers do it out in the open with large crowds or anyone anywhere with little care or regard about anything around them. The smoke emitted is not alone in the problem. A related report showed that cigarette butts thrown around are the leading litter item found, outnumbering misc. paper, & broken glass. Aluminum cans and plastic bags didn't even show in the top 100. One of my older brothers, an ex-smoker, had a barbecue where some friends came and smoked in his back yard where he had ashtrays. He literally watched them throw cigarette butts into his bushes and all over his yard and emptied only 5 butts from the ashtray. A few weeks later he left a message on the back door for a friend after littering the back yard with a weeks worth of used tampons from his girlfriend.

    Cigarette butts are bio-degradable......

  19. Still not nice to have them blowing about all over the place. It will take them a while to degrade, in which time people will have smoked a whole new stack to replace them.

that's a negative argument. despite being bio-degradable they're STILL the most common item of rubbish! imagine if they -weren't- degradable!

Oh the horror !! Imagine if they weren't degradable ? Imagine if they expanded to the size of a house when you dropped them or imagine if they mutated into poisonous frogs when dropped If you are going to imagine horrors of cigarette butts you may as well make up something really scary.
