Apparently cigarette packs in Australia are going to start having pictures of cancer ridden lungs on them.

They've been doing that in Canada for a while. This one's my favourite:

If you are like me and think that this in particular is disgusting and that the "war on smoking" is both dishonest and a violation of personal rights, check out this website:

i think that's pretty funny.
personally i don't agree with smoking, and if people didn't do it our hospitals wouldn't be as busy and nor would the fire service. we also have a stupidly high level of asthma sufferers here, attributed to parents smoking. -
I only smoke very occasionally, even then it's usually a nice cigar. I won't become hooked, I just do it for enjoyment.
I would have thought there would be a response to the NHS adverts where they show arteries beign squeezed, or when people in their 30s are filmed in what looks like their final hours telling people how they regret smoking.
Having said that, I get the impression that the general public would rather remain in ignorance. It'll never happen to them...

well with folks like george telling us smoking doesn't give anyone cancer (because he hasn't got it and smokes like a chimney) the public aren't going to listen to scientists.
I have smoked, but it's less frequent than when i drink, and that's not very often. -

Blame the fire department and hospital stuff on the stupid ******** that drink and drive, or beat their wives or other idiotic crap like that. -

Unfortunately, on the large scale, smokers do it out in the open with large crowds or anyone anywhere with little care or regard about anything around them. The smoke emitted is not alone in the problem. A related report showed that cigarette butts thrown around are the leading litter item found, outnumbering misc. paper, & broken glass. Aluminum cans and plastic bags didn't even show in the top 100. One of my older brothers, an ex-smoker, had a barbecue where some friends came and smoked in his back yard where he had ashtrays. He literally watched them throw cigarette butts into his bushes and all over his yard and emptied only 5 butts from the ashtray. A few weeks later he left a message on the back door for a friend after littering the back yard with a weeks worth of used tampons from his girlfriend. -

Still not nice to have them blowing about all over the place. It will take them a while to degrade, in which time people will have smoked a whole new stack to replace them.
