Will any 4 to 6 and 4 to 4 Firewire cable work?....meaning are they all the same?
I have a Canon DV cam that I want to go to my Philips DVD Recorder (4 to 4) and I'll need a 4 to 6 pin one for the Canon cam to my computer.

I'm new to DV and Firewire....I'm an old "handcrank RCA Cable" guy.

  3. Any 4 to 4 cable & 4 to 6 cable will be standard.

Now Firewire ain't Firewire anymore. You should be ok but:

Classic Firewire is now Firewire 400

The latest standard to come out is Firewire 800 for the speed freaks.

But most devices won't have the faster version, especially camcorders that were made prior to the last few days.

Thanks guys. I was hoping to hear such things. And why are they all 2 freaking meters long?...What happened to shorter cable means better quality?...
    No need to answer....just venting.

Another cat avatar. Just for general information the difference between 6 pin and 4 pin Firewire is that 6 pin can carry a DC voltage and ground for powered devices. I have a external Firewire HD that requires the 6 pin version. Other than that, they are interchangeable.

    OK....now I get it.
6 pin is on computers for stuff like external powered Hard Drives like my Maxtor that I have on USB 2.0 right now.
I should have known that but today is my son's first birthday...my mind is on stealing as many hugs as I can...little bugger is getting strong though...he's starting to almost be able to push me away already..

    Thanks again guys.
