  1. Hello guys:

When I transfer video from camcorder, what is the best video format I need record to computer? DV or DVD-Mpeg2? I use Ulead VideoStudio 8 to make home DVD-Video.

Depends, if your going to edit use DV. If your going to burn direct to DVD use MPEG. DV is in a AVI container and is the highest quality and makes for better editing it then has to be encoded to MPEG to make DVD compatible. If your just going to burn the footage to DVD without editing as is you can just use MPEG to capture to save time.

  3. I know that does not matter what kind of video file I recoreded to computer, it has to be converted to DVD-mpeg2 in order to make DVD.

The question is Which file, DV or Mpeg, can make DVD picture better?

    Thanks

    Here's the best method:

If you have a DV camera then just transfer the footage onto your PC as it is, ie DV avi. No conversion.

After editing you can convert it to DVD mpeg using a good encoder to produce high quality video.

TMPGEnc encoder, Mainconcept encoder, Canopus ProCoder, CCE are four of the local favorites. I use TMPGEnc. There are more; Listed in the 'Tools' section under encoders. You can also use a package setup that has encoder, editing and author tools. Check the 'Tools' section also for this.

  7. VS 8 will also convert your edited DV AVI to MPEG and the quality is good. If you're a perfectionist, try Tmpgenc a spin as they have a free trial version. Compare a shart clip from both and see which one you like. If VS8 does a find job, you're there.
