  1. I have a NEC-2510A and finally found some media. I use DVD workshop to author, but since WS does not support dual layer, I am planning to use NERO to burn the DL disk. Is this possible, or is there anything special that needs to be done during the authoring process for DL.
    Thanks

Why do you say Nero sux for DVDs, if I may? I'm curious b/c I have been using Nero for years and it's treated me pretty well...
I don't have or use Dual Layer stuff, so if you meant Nero sux with DL then disregard.

I realize you are totally new here. But we all would appreciate it if you can give more details when you have issues with a major program and state so in this forum.

Many folks here use Nero and love it for DVDs. But I still do not know if you can do dual layer with it.

  5. Did anyone read my question or did you respond based on the tools I mentioned. I will try and make it simple.

I want to know if there is any special processing required to author a DL DVD. I am using DVD workshop and it does not support burning to DL media yet. So I planned to use NERO to burn the disk. Thats said, I just wanted to know if there was anything special that needed to be done during the authoring process.

Ummm, sorry, I guess....since you put it so nicely.
I don't have a DL burner and/or DL media to try. I am going out on a limb here and assuming it must be on Neros web site if you looked hard enough...

    **EDIT**
After a quick google search I found this excerpt fro cdfreaks...

Ahead Software announced today the world?s first all-in-one DVD+R Double Layer (DL) software suite. All of Nero?s applications in this enhanced version of its OEM digital media suite will fully support DVD+R DL drives, allowing 8.5GB DVD writing, authoring, backup and recoding the first time ever. The optical recording technology landscape will once again be transformed in 2004 with Double Layer DVD recording that will double the capacity of existing writable DVD discs, broadening the universe of video and data storage.
So I would assume, if you have the latest version of Nero, you can burn DL media the same way you burn single layer...

  7. nothing special about authoring a dual layer disc, just keep it within capacity.

your recording software (Nero) will automatically drop in the layer break, so theres not really much to worry about

  8. Still you guys are not answering the question he asked. He was asking about the prcess of authoring DL disc, not about burning. Please read the question first before start writing an answer, so it may be helpful.

    Whoa! Calm down there, tiger!

He asked about burning, not authoring. He is using DVD Workshop, which works fine for him with authoring, but won't work for the burning. It's been answered.

No need to get all up in the peeps grill, yo.

Your rant is moot since freestyler covered all bases:

  12. thanks Supreme2k

Come to think of it, if you stand on your head while the disc is burning your disc will be more compatible.

If you want quality, don't forget this step Makkar.

  13. But most of the authoring programs will not accept the file size over 4.4 gig. That is the reason he again repeated the question, as he was not getting any answers.

Ok you are correct, I was not barking at anybody. I myself wanted to know the answer.
Need not be sarcastic and shouting. I thought this is a free forum, not a personal talk and anybody can come do a comment. Correct me if I am wrong.

  15. Most dvd players won't play double layer media. Be sure your players do or buy one that does, when they make them.

  16. Is there a chart or something to know which player supports DL media??

  17. Most players will play DL disks as long as you bitset it to DVD-ROM.

OK, so where are you guys getting your DL media from? I've just installed a shiny new 2510 myself, and am wondering when I'll get to truly appreciate the extra tenner it cost me...
