I have a XVID movie encoded with the POS 'qpel' flag. Is there an easy way to remove that from my movie and maintain as much quality as possible? If that means converting UP to dvd spec, no prob. Just tell me which program and what to do.
Thanks!

As far as I know, you must completely re-encode the the video.
The good news is that there will be very little quality loss if you do it right.
It seems the best way to do Xvid to Xvid is using VirtualDub. There are some guides out there on encoding Xvid using VirtualDub, but here are a few tips.
1. choose fast recompress mode. This means no conversion among color spaces, and faster encoding, with maximum quality maintained. You'll be keeping exactly the same size.
2. use the same video bitrate as was used in the original video. You can use a little more, but it probably will not help much. Definately do not use less, or you will lose quality.
3. make sure you have the latest Xvid installed.
4. choose the 2-pass mode
On my 2.00 GHz P4, re-encoding a 2-hr movie takes roughly 3.5 hours...definately quicker that encoding to SVCD or DVD. -
I'm trying to figure out how to do the same thing...the QPel codec is annoying.
Where is the 2-pass mode option located?
