In most articles that ive read about converting from any AVI to DVD it says to use a program like GSpot or AVICodec to get info like fps, vid res, aud sample but ive never seen any explinations on why.
Do you want to try and keep about the same numbers in the DVD as there were in the AVI?
Of course isnt the fps going to change if its converting from PAL to NTSC?
Im pretty much ignorate when it comes to all this and wish I could find a step by step instructional of converting AVI to DVD as spoken to a newbies newbie.
I usualy just convert my downloaded avi and convert using Nero 6.3 but think I could get better outcome if I became more advanced at the whole process.
    Thanks, from a newbies, newbie.

The reason AVIcodec or Gspot is suggested is that 'AVI' can mean quite a few different formats and different methods are used to go from AVI to DVD. I personally like TMPGEnc DVD encoder. Fairly easy to use and reasonably priced. Take a look at this guide, may be what you need.https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm Also look at the 'What is' to the left under DVD and you will see what the requirements are for a DVD.

Thanks for pointing me in the right directions.
Im still somewhat in the dark about certain aspects of the whole process of converting from avi to dvd.
Most articles dont always go into enough detail. They tend to be written for people who probably know somewhat more than me.
I start following the steps and get off course because its over my head.
Maybe I should take up basket weaving or something. hehe.
Anyway, thanks so much. I will keep reading and following.......verbaten.

I guess some people tell you what to do and not why you need to do it.

If you go into any further detail you will confuse people even more I think.
    If in doubt, Google it.

So it looks like you have to convert bitrate among other things but what about if its PAL (25fps).
Do you convert that to NTSC(23.976) which conforms to my area?
I havent read anything that covers that,
only Aspect Ratio, the audio info. and the duration of the avi.
I will say that I am getting the hang of it all.
Had an avi that played great on the pc but when I converted to DVD and played it, the sound was out of sync.
I seperated the audio and video, made the audio AC3 and put it back together with perfect results.
Anyway, thanks for any info on the above question.

Only if your DVD will not play it. I'm in North America and my DVD player will play a PAL disk.
