  1. I cannot get my VCDs to play. Let me say though, that I have used the "Search" function extensively, tried the proposed solutions, and STILL CANNOT GET MY VCDS TO WORK!

Also - they worked on my old computer. I have about 20 vcds - all of which worked before - and now none of them do. So it's not a fluke or a bad burn. Last August, I bought a Dell Dimension 8100 and can't get them to work on it.

It came loaded with Windows ME. Windows Media Player 7 is installed on my computer. I have tried all kinds of different players like PowerDVD and Cinematograph. I have even tried to use VCDGear to convert .dat files on cds to .mpg....

I read the post where you go edit your registy and change the default for .dat files "mpegfile" (or something like that). Did that, it STILL DIDN'T WORK.

Various programs give me different error messages... WMP has gave me ones like "No filters exist to render the stream" and "A device attached to your system is not functioning." PowerDVD seems to think all my cds are scratched beyond playability (all 20 of them, yep heh). VCD Gear says it can't find mpeg stream...

I know someone has to have had this problem before... please help me! Thanks much,
    Josh

  2. Josh,

I had the same problem with my DELL Inspiron 8000 I bought last xmas. I deleted (formatted the drive) WinME (Much Excriment) and installed Win2000 Pro. I then installed WinDVD and I'm in like Flint.
