  1. I am looking to buy a DVD recorder. The Brands I am looking at are Pioneer, Sony and JVC. I know Jvc is going have a hard disc recorder(160 GB) and Sony too in the future. What do you recomend? I am looking for a hard disc recorder. I want good quality in Lp mode and ep mode(if possible). Also I would require a firewire out connection to conect to the PC. I know Sony and Pioneer has it. What about the JVC lordsmurf? I see that you have been testing the jvc recorders. Are they better than the other 2? Any help would e greatly appreciated.

    The SONY is a paperweight.

The JVC does have an edge over the quality of Pioneer recorders.

There is really no such thing as good beyond 4 hours. The LiteOn 5001 does an adaptive deinterlace, so that's the best 6-hour I've seen on NTSC. I've seen some interlaced PAL 6-hour 352x288 on an old PAL Panasonic recorder, but that's as good as it gets.

No real comments on JVC with HD. Not here to test. But I will say Pioneer has been doing that longer, and at not-bad quality.

Most I can really say on this.

  3. Well here is my 2 cents worth. I have a Sony and i think it is great. What i do with mine is just transfer video over to DVD. It won't do anything fancy as far as menus and other stuff but i love it. Everything i have transferred over is flawless. Use DVD RWs for the wife's TV shows and find compatibility is good. As far as the comparison to Pioneer goes i had the 310 and took it back. Transfer from VCR and camcorder was crappy. I don't claim to know much about them but for what i do with it i know the Sony is far better than the Pioneer in the video transfer end of it.

  4. the Liteon5001B is doing the rounds just now,for 175 euros online.
im about to take mine back,as the dvds its making arent compliant.
the sound is the culprit, and dvd-lab coinfirmed that the video would need re-encoded too, just to play it on my standalone.
    its a cheap,almost frighteningly light machine,and not that good,IMO.
i just bought it from currys in the UK,meant to be half price at £150,reduced from £299,but thats a lot of bollox.
