Right now, I have an ATI 8500 AIW. I am looking at either the 9600 AIW Pro or 9800 AIW Pro. I really don't see much difference in clock speeds and such. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My main use is to record basketball games and transfer them to DVD. My 8500 lags a bit in spots.

    I'm running:
    Windows XP
    P4 3.0Ghz (C)
    Gigabyte 8IK1100
    2 x 512 Crucial
Maxtor 120G and 80G (capture drive)

This is really a question for LordSmurf but my understanding (based on reading and not ownership of any ATI AIW cards) is that the 9000 series be it a 9000 AIW or 9600 AIW or 9800 AIW etc. all work about the same for video capture. The increased speed is only for intense graphics like game play etc.

At least that is my understanding ...

Thanks, FL. There's a $100 price difference there, just want to make sure.

Well I am not 100% positive about that but I do seem to recall reading that. I do think all the 9000 series use the same encoding chip.

Might want to wait for LordSmurf to post to see if he can confirm what I said.
