I have 4 seaprate xvid AVIs that play fine in quicktime. The movies total only about an hour, but the file size is close to 1gig; I'm trying to encode them to divx to fit on one CD.
I copy and pasted all the clips into one movie in Quicktime pro, then saved it as a self contained movie.
The problem is the encoding seems to keep finishing at around 53 minutes, and the audio is not getting encoded at all. Strange, because so errors are being reported, but obviously some must be occuring. Perhaps someone can make sense of the output:
I get a lot of those 'vop not coded'; I left most of them outCode:Encoding started on Fri Jun 25 13:46:46 EDT 2004 MEncoder dev-CVS-040614-23:18-3.3 (C) 2000-2004 MPlayer Team AltiVec found CPU: PowerPC Reading /Users/myname/.mplayer/codecs.conf: Reading /usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: Using built-in default codecs.conf. It sounds like you have 4 xvids, you're combining them in QTPro, saving as a new mov file, and then encoding the mov to divx with ffmpegx?
I would suggest trying to encode each xvid seperately, and then joining them up afterwards (just copy n paste in QT pro). Skip the whole mov step.
PS Merely going from xvid to divx isn't going to change your filesize by any significant amount, unless you also reduce bitrates (and quality)
