Close, the ball on the ground is the score, not getting over the line. although isn't a "touchdown" the same thing in american football? hotting people is indeed another highlight. this one guy in school was a bastard for taking you down with a forearm to the kneck thoughOriginally Posted by northcat_8![]()

In american football just crossing the line is the score. I played football and I coach football and rugby is the closest thing to american football after your playing days are over.

Craig,
How about a score of 49-48 in a game that has 7 minutes of actual action, in a game of 60 minutes, that takes 4 hours to complete?
And even then, the starting lineup is not on the field the whole time, special teams are called in for damned near any imaginable lie of the ball.
My 12 year old granddaughter plays maybe 40 out of 50 minutes with a 10 minute half time break in travel league soccer. 2 subs on the team so everybody gets a little rest.
I think it takes a hell of a lot more stamina to play soccer than US football.
I've watched her every game, and practice, and loved every minute of it.
Had a tourney last weekend, they won 1-0, tied, 0-0, won, 3-0, semifinals next AM, lost 1-0. Great weekend. Can't wait for the new season to start.
Norwin Soccer Club, local association, has 2 complexes, maybe 15 full size fields, all well utilized, adult teams play regularly. Soccer is alive and well in my area.
Why is defense so admired in US football, but defenders in soccer who can keep the opposition from scoring, thus a 1-0 game, maybe, the reason "we" call it boring?
Goddamn, Sam, a goalie flies through the air to make a spectacular save, and the game is "boring", the score is so low. Hell, nothing - nothing is exciting. Good fullbacks, good sweeper, good goalkeeper. You ain't gettin' past us.
Love it. Glad Beckham isn't leaving because of it, and glad he stood up for the Coach, in the press the other day. Stendholm"? Close, I think. Have to go back and check.
Cheers,

I wasn't being sacrastic (who me?
), just pointing out that I don't think he has any excuses. He put the ball down on the spot - should have seen it.
