  1. First, here is the link at newegg:

I was planning to get the Toshiba SD-R5272, but for $9 more, the Samsung is an identical drive but retail (vs. OEM) packaged with software.

Samsung USA doesn't even list the drive, so I wonder if anyone knows what versions of software they bundle, since the CD-ROM does not clearly say. Do you know if they're too outdated or just crippled versions? Here is a list of software:

    Ahead:
    Nero Express 6.3, InCD 4
    Intervideo:
    WinDVD Creator
    WinDVD Recorder
    DVD Copy

(since no version numbers given for intervideo products, are they version 1.0 products? Are version 1.0 good enough for you, etc.?)

I read in this forum that Intervideo DVD Copy is quite good, but I wonder if this bundle includes the version reviewed. Many thanks.

  2. Gee, I'm replying to my own message.
Do any of you evaluate the software bundle before you buy the drive or do you just prefer to buy it extra? What if it contains 2 or 3 title that you'll buy anyway? If so, would you accept the difference in hardware? Any specific drive bundles you find useful? I think is a major part of a product's value and should be discussed alongside technical features.
