I need advice for Bitrate setting in TMPGEnc when converting .vob files to mpeg2. I want the max set to 8000. What are good settings for Average and Minimum? Thanks.

.vob files ARE mpeg-2. No need to re-encode,plenty of ways of extracting the mpeg-2 video from a vob file.Originally Posted by dvdragon
If you have other reasons to re-encode, use a bitrate calculator to determine the best bitrate to use. -
The problem is Tempenc DVD Author will not take clips with a high bitrate like LOTR or Terminator 2. They show up as 9800kbps. I have to recode them. So what are good minimum and average bitrates. Thanks for responding.Originally Posted by bugster

Set the minimum to 1,000 and set the average to fill the disk by using...Originally Posted by dvdragon

If you're not worried about size then don't bother with VBR. VBR is good when you want to keep the size small (or get more on a disk) while keeping quality. In your case a high bitrate CBR will be as good or better than a VBR.Originally Posted by dvdragon
You should be able to go to 9,000 kbps total, including your audio and video. If your audio is LPCM then your video should be 7,500...set it a little lower to be safe, say 7,000."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -

If in doubt, Google it. -
Actually the problem is Tmpgenc DVDA only looks at the mpeg header, in which the bitrate is often listed as 9800. In reality the bitrate is rarely this high. Use bitrate viewer on the vobs if you want to check.Originally Posted by dvdragon
This is only a warning from DVDA, not a fatal error. Skip it and continue. It will almost certainly be fine.
