  1. Alright...first of all, from the moment I turn ON the PC to the time its ready to use, it takes almost 2 minutes. Anyway, msn messenger starts up fine. THEN I get start up Explorer...and it goes nowhere...wont connect to any site. THEN...I open the messenger app and go click the GO TO INBOX button and it connects me. WHATS GOING ON...should I just format and start all over!?

  2. Hmmmm

2 minutes... not that bad... when was the last time the drive was formatted and the OS re-installed? (what OS by the way)

What apps do you have running on start up? (What's started in taskbar)

Run MSCONFIG, what items do you have running in your startup that are suspicious (compare to: http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/

Sounds like it may be time to take that plunge and reformat....nothing like a 30 second start up

Edit... btw, I recall you are in Japan... is the sig animated gif from a new Japanese cartoon... would be fun

I wish mine only took 2 minutes to boot Sounds like your home page preference might have been corrupted Beavereater.

Beavereater, open IE then click tools>options>connections if your using dial-up make sure your connection is set to default. Then select always dial my default connection.

2 minutes? Hmmmm I won't mention my start up time I'd try cleaning up the services configuration and start-up options in msconfig. For Services go to control panel>administrative tools>services, for msconfig go to start>run and type msconfig select the start up tab. For information on what the services do go here www.blackviper.com for the startup look here http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php Be careful what you disable, many of these services and start up programs are essential for your computer to run.

If you speak Japanese, you might ask tech support.

Your "Details" says Win2k, and you are in Japan with a high speed DSL line(10 times our DSL speed), so you should connect instantly, almost.

Have you run a Spyware and virus check? And do you mean Internet Explorer won't connect, or Windows Explorer, from My Computer?

If the latter, more likely a Windows glitch, and 2 months is not a long enough time to have to re-install Win2k.

Run a virus check and spy ware, trojan search, first. Block any app you do not need accessing the net. Too many programs now go to Home to check for updates, check to see if you are legal, etc.. Block 'em all. MS, Virus program., are all that you really need to have internet access enabled for. You don't NEED for every program to go home and tell you that an upgrade is available.

    Cheers,

    George

Msconfig does not work in 2000 unless you either copy 98's msconfig or xp's msconfig into 2000. 98's config is too unstable to use in 2000. Xp's works like a champ, but it has to be manually inserted.
