When I used Trend Micro's PC-Cillin Virus Scanner, it had a feature called "Emergency Lock". You could right click an icon in the system tray and it would immedietly lock all incoming or outgoing traffic to your connection. This was very useful if I encountered a website with huge amounts of popups or spyware or other bad stuff. However, I don't have PC-Cillin anymore and now I use crappy McAfee Virus Scanner which doesn't have such a lock feature. Does anyone know of a piece of software (preferably freeware) that lets you lock your connectivity with the click of a button. Something even better than PC-Cillin would be were you could click a bunch of keys and it would lock it like ctrl+alt+7+8. I tried download.com but could not find anything. There might indeed be something there but the site is a mess.

    Thanks.

The free version of ZoneAlarm can do that, and lots more.

  3. ZoneAlarm firewall software is free and has an "Internet Lock" function that stops all internet access. The software is VERY good and is free for personal use.

    Available at http://www.zonelabs.com

I appreciate both of yours help. Just installed ZoneAlarm and it seems like a great firewall program all-around. Plus, it has the STOP button. THANKS!

  8. Try Kerio,

On another thread Baldrick had commented about ZoneAlarm uncompressing web page data xfer (causes pages to come up slower)... he recommended Kerio... I tried, I liked... has a shut down feature and even on dial up (I'm too cheap .. free dial up from home) pages did seem to come up faster.

I had a bad experience with zone-alarm and will never use it again.

I uninstalled it and lost my internet connection.

It had renamed a system file that is needed to connect to my broadband sevice that I had at the time.

Well, after two glorious weeks, I have officially uninstalled ZoneAlarm. What they say is true. It is slow, makes me lose my internet connection, and the "internet lock" sometimes never unlocks. I installed Kerio today and am using its "stop traffic" option.
