    i've created a vcd from an svcd file using the header trick but when i play it on my home dvd player the sound goes weird every now and then. when i play it on my pc dvd player it is fine, does anyone know why that is? if so, how can i fix it?

    Well, since you've in effect tricked your player into playing something it's not supposed to, all inds of wierd behaviour might be expected... But it shold be more on the video side than audio, since VCd and SVCD audio soecs are identical - what format is the audio in? Maybe it was an off specs SVCD mpeg to begin with?

    i probably sound thick, but i'm new to all this! how do i find out what sort of audio file it is??

    Try AVICodec, or play it using some mpeg player (like WinDVD) - it usually has some file info.

    i've just tried using goldwave to try and extract the the audio from the mpeg2 file and it tells me that the audio file is not supported. i then installed the AC3filter but still no joy

    There you go - AC3 is not a valid SVCD audio format - only MP2 is, and there's further restrictions too - check SVCD under WHAT IS!
