  1. I have an .avi file, that I'm trying to convert to DVD, but it starts up, and fails, saying unrecognized file, in VLC, it tells me the audio codec is "vorb", which means, um, nothing to me...and it gives me DivX as the video type, Any help is much appreciated!!!

Fourcc code 'vorb' is Ogg Vorbis audio.
A QuickTime Component decoder may help, if ffmpegX uses QuickTime decoding.

Or reverse, disable QuickTime decoding, so another Ogg-savvy avi decoder takes over.

You can also demux it and then convert the ogg to mp3 with iTunes (option-click Advanced, choose convert to mp3, select your ogg). This might also need the QT ogg codec mentioned above.
