Hi,i'm using the demo nero vision express 2 to burn video files i have however, although everything works fine burining wise i want to put just that little bit more onto a vcd.when i put 740mb on my 700mb disk nero tells me (by clicking on the blue question mark) that the file size is to large and that i should try reducing the bitrate and hence quality to fit it all in.How do i reduce the bitrate?i can't find out how to do it,nero's website is no help.Could it be that because i'm using the demo version that some features are missing? Please help!!!!

hi,
are you trying tro create vcd or svcd.740 mb of vcd and svcd data will fit in a 700 mb cd-r perfectly.
first you can't do it in nero vision express.in your nero folder, select nero burning rom instead.then select video cd in the left cd format selection tab.
remove the tick from make standard compliant vcd.then drag the video in.don't use any of the express functions of nero.
you didn't state how you encoded your video but if you used tmpgenc, you will need to select mpeg 1 video cd or mpeg 1 video cd(non standard ) in the system tab when you want to encode the file.thats the only way burnoing programs will read the file in the exact size you want it to read.
try it this way.fyi you can put in up to 800 mb of vcd or svcd data on a 700mb 80 min cd-r and 740 mb on a 74 min cd-r.i've tried all these with absolute success. -
Hi,thanks for your quick reply,i have been using vision express for a while (demo version) and have been able to burn .mpg and .avi files.Any that i cannot burn i convert using TMGEnc and it works fineon vision express.I have a 80 min CD-R,you mentioned that it can store 740mb on a 700mb disk? as i am only 20mb over are you saying that even if nero vision express tells me that the file size is to large and might not work i should still go ahead and do it and shoul'dnt encounter any problems whilst playing?.I tried using nero burning ROM and this is what happened-I clicked on VCD,then i unticked standard compliant cd box then i clicked open, navigated to the folder where my files are and couldn't see them!,i changed the files of type box at the bottom to all files (**) and found them but then when i clicked on them a window pops up saying unexpected file format, this happens with both the .avi and .mpg file i have.what should i do?Thanks for your time

hi,
in nero after you untick the standard compliance box,you should click on new not open.then you search and drag the files.when you click on open ,you are searching for a saved project format for nero.
besides, you need to convert the avi file when you untick the box as the main effect of removing the tick is that nero woudn't convert any opened file to standard vcd format before burning.
so use mpeg 1 files.in this case for instance,if you want better quality video, you could increase the bit rate to any value from 1150 to 1800 and it will still play well in absolutely every standalone dvd player.
i have sinced stopped using 1150kb/s video bit rate for creating vcd's because the quality is crap.go to kvcd.net and download some templates for tmpgenc ith the gop structure and quantuze matrix values altered and you will be encoding better quality video.nero vision express will always try to convert the files and nero's encoding isn't that good at all. -
Hi
Thanks for replying,i just have a few quick questions,
1. After clicking on the burn compilation option after dragging the files the bitrate is changed by clicking on the write speed right?,i have an old CD-r so at the moment it's at it's highest at 8x(1,200 Kb/s) and to fit it all on the disk i would have no pick the next lowest speed which is 4x(600 KB/s).
2.My files are in NTSC format, how do i change them to PAL resolution so i can play them on a european VCD player
3.I should change .avi files to MPEG-1 using TMGEnc like you said instead of using nero to encode the AVi to mpeg-1 because the encoding is'nt good, then i should drag the newly encoded MPEG-1 files to nero burning rom and burn right?
4.If i have 720 MB to fit on a 700mb VCD using nero vision express 2 ,even though nero warns of overburning it should still play perfectly? (i'll use your method from now on but i ask just out of intrest)
Thanks for your advice mate it's really appreciated,i swear if i was a millionare i'd give you ....like....20 quid or something. -
1. No, wrong. Burning speed and the bitrate of the video are different things. Bitrate is with how many bits per second of video is encoded the file. For example 10 sec. of video * 1150 kilobits per sec = 11500 kilobits total file size.
2. It is VERY tricky. You should learn quite more to do it properly. Good start are the guides of this site.
3. Yes, almost, but you should select Video CD in nero menu, coz VCD need authoring (special directory structure) and special mode of burning. I would suggest you to use nero only for what it originaly was made - burning. Authoring step and image creation better to be made with VCDEasy (IMO). The CD image can be burned with nero.
4. VCD is video disc format which specs are 10 min = 10 MB. So 80 min CD (700 MB) can fit WITHOUT overburning 800 MB VCD (but for example if you have text file it will fit only 700 MB). VCD are burned with Mode2form2 method. That is why in nero video CD shouuld be selected separately. I don't know nero vision express and in fact I am very suspicious to such a "clones" to original purpose of nero -> to burn rom. -
In that case what button do i press to change the bitrate to fit more onto the vcd. Thanks
-
If you want to change the bitrate you should reencode all the file with an encoder. It is not "buton clicking" solution. There isn't such a solution for VCD (MPEG 1) files. Sorry.

hi crg,
answers to your questions
ABOND gave correct answers to your questions but to the ntsc to pal conversion,it's possible with tmpgenc.
just load the ntsc file into the program and select any pal template you want.it will conert the file with no extra encoding time added.that's easy.
