  1. I'm using TMPGEnc 2.5 (don't need anything from the later versions so far) and was wondering if there's any way to reset the 30 day counter for MPEG-2 encoding. As far as I can tell, the only way to get permanent MPEG-2 recording is to buy a lter version of the software, which is pricy and I don't need.

Also, is there any good way to de-mux DiVX files and then mux the mp3 audio back into an MPEG file so I don't have to re-encode the audio?

    Yes...there is.

Pegasys will unlock it for you when you BUY IT.

Seems to me like you DO need it, otherwise you wouldn't want MPEG-2 "recording" in the first place.

    Ahhh, finally a legitimite question.

I don't think there is (I am not aware of) a way to do what you would like to do, only because I don't think MPEG video and MP3 audio can go together.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. If you want free MPEG-2 encoding, download BBmpeg. You may want to read the forum "rulez" and edit your post accordingly before you get a warning....

  5. I don't mind paying, I just don't want to have to pay for a full upgrade. The only premium feature I'm interested in is MPEG-2 recording. BBMPEG does nothing but crash when I try to use it.

Never mind. Just saw TMPEG2.5 Plus is much cheaper than I thought. At any rate, I think I'll hold out to get a DVD burner. If that comes with decent software, I won't need to purchase anything.

And what's the deal with mp3s? It's a MPEG audio format that can't be used with actual MPEGs? (I apologize if this sounds like a newbie question.)

Also, so I don't have to buy 2 encoders, is there any way to do rm with TMPGEnc?

Realmedia can be done with realproducer or fx video converter. TMPGEnc will not do RM. I havn't done anything like what you are trying to do, so I really can't comment on the rest. There is also Quenc but I can't remember if it does MPEG-2 or not... Look under tools.

I made once a VCD with mp3 track. It was multiplexed in TMPG as non-standart VCD and for my surprise it played in my DVD player (Schneider DVD V 300 - Mustek clone). It needed more time to load the disc though.
As for mpeg-2 I will suggest to use MencodeMe - this is what I am using.

mp3 is not a valid audio format for any disc based video (VCD/SVCD/DVD). Some players might play such a non standard mpeg anyway, but don't bet on it.

MPeg 2 encoding IS the premium feature

This is the real world. Things like burners don't come with decent software. If they have a decent program it's usually a very cut down or a trial version.

The bolded bit is wishful thinking, don't you think ? I have never yet seen a full version of a decent program bundled OEM....except maybe PowerDVD. Certainly no encoders anyway.

That IS a newbie question. Read What is DVDR (top left) to see the specs on what is acceptable for DVD.
    If in doubt, Google it.
