Hi,
I'm a newbie to DVD burning. I did some research here too. But I just can't find the answer. Anyway...here is my problem.
I want to burn all my avi, mpeg, rm, ogg....etc.. video files on my DVD. I don't need to watch them on any DVD player. Well...all I need is that I want to store them into DVD as general computer data so I can just open them and view them with my computer, such as Windows Media Player.
All I found here mostly talk about converting avi to whatever whatever then burn it to dvd...etc....I just want to know is this the ONLY way? I can't just copy them to my DVD like using my CD to backup my files??
Thanks a lot for you guys' help!

That's EXACTLY what you can do. Simply select "data DVD" in your burning software and back it up (Video, text files, images, etc.).

I can't.......there are errors.
First, let me includes more background info.
My PC:
WinXP
P4 2.8GHz
1GB RAM
DVD - NEC ND-2500A
Software:
DVDXCopy Platinum 4.0.3.8
Alcohol120% 1.9.2.1705
DVD Copy Plus 4.2
DVD Shrink 3.17
Wizard Pro v5.75
DVD Decrypter
Roxio Easy Media Creator
Nero 6.3.3 Retail
CloneDVD 2.0.9.4
I think that's about it...anyway...I tried to make a "data DVD" with nero, burning successful but failed to test/verify data, and when I tried to open the files....it gives me error message. Same thing for roxio....etc....successful to copy but failed to open files...and it made my pc freezes and when i check the "event viewer" I see it says there is an error reading my DVD. I also tried to make an iso image and burn it, but that doesnt work too.
Please advise if i did anything wrong and any solutions. Thanks. -
Sounds like a software problem. It should be as simple as opening Nero, selecting Data DVD, then drag 'n drop the files to the burn folder (left side in Nero).
If you know anyone with a DVD burner, use a -/+RW (or cheap -/+R) to check it out.
Also, what media are you using? I've used crap media that burned okay, but gave me similar problems. Are you having the same problems burning to CD?
Another thing is to make sure that you have the most recent updates. There may be some program conflicts that they address. I remember back in the day that Easy CD creator (formerly under Adaptec) would cause conflicts with other burning software. -
well, I tried 2 media, ritek DVD-R 4x but no name on the disc...so...not sure I ripped or whatever....problem bad DVDs...not sure...cos I have problems burning DVD movies too.....i have success but successful rate is kinda low. another kind of media is Memorex DVD+RW 4x.
anyway, i tried both to burn data dvd and both dont work for me.
the ever first try, it was Nero alone without any software installed. but never success in making data DVD. and then i started to try other software but still no good.
anyway...i doubt my drive has any problem....so you are right, it's either software or the media, which I am not sure yet....and that's why I want to hear more you guys' experts' advices. -
Btw, I found a post here, which this guy has the similar (almost the same) problem as me.
