  1. When I convert a 700MB divx movie into a DVD, the fileset is only 2.39GB. Why isn't the fileset closer to the 4.3GB limit? Are the extra GB's necessary or will the 2.39GB fileset give me the best quality possible?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Jason.

Unless you are going to embark on a restoration job on the original first, you probably wont get better quality by inceasing the file size. You might even find you could squeeze it further and fit a second film on the disk without losing quality.

  3. Thanks Gun,

I do realize that I'm not going to get a quality better than the divx file. I'm just trying to get the best DVD that I can get from the divx file. I can encode the divx file with AVI2DVD, Tmpgenc, ... etc, and I get a file closer to the 4.3GB limit, but with WinAVI, the file is 2.39GB. I'm just wondering why this is? If this is the best quality that I can get from the divx file, then great, but I do want the best quality and if the 4.3GB fileset is of better quality, then I would rather use other conversion software.

    Just looking for some insight.

    Thanks,
    J.

  4. It seems that the best quality of your source files is 2.39GB by WinAVI. You can compare the movie quality by your eyes bewteen 2.39GB by WinAVI and 4.3GB by other program. It should be same. Maybe other program just fill some void stuff in DVD files to make the size to 4.3GB.
