  1. Hello. Recently, I purchased a 50-pack of CompUSA brand DVD-R. Here's a link to the product, if it helps:

    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=312097&pfp=BROWSE

I have never had a problem with burning or playing these discs, by the way. I was about to use a disc from roughly the middle of the spindle when I noticed something wrong with the bottom of the disc (I always check the bottom for scratches or imperfections before I burn). The purple bottom was fine, but the inner ring of the DVD-R (which is usually a silver/metallic color) was a beige/off-white color. I touched the ring, and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it, just the weird color.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Is it safe to use this disc, or do I just chuck it in the garbage? For all I know, that beige stuff might ruin my DVD burner. Or it could just be a discoloration...

I thought I'd ask the great people of VideoHelp. Thanks in advance!

    Take care,
    J.P.

Maybe you could post a scan of it, I am not sure what you mean? When you say Inner Ring, do you mean where the stacking rings normally appear or just before that at the edge of the dye? The reason I ask is no disks that use stacking rings metalise to the center (because the silver becomes brittle and cracks/breaks where the stacking rings are). There should not be anything beige where the silver is, the silver is for reflection and is very important.

If you could post a scan we could have a look and have some sort of idea what you are talking about. When you say beige/off white, could you possibly mean frosty? If they are frosty this would indicate a reaction between the bonding substance and the plastics the disk is made from. This happens when the disks are not stuck together properly. Other tell tale signs of a bad disk are airbubbles inside the inner ring (caused by the same problem, just less severe).

Again, you really -need- to post some images or be more clear in your question.
