I'm trying to use TMPGEnc 2.521.58.169 to change a movie that's a "letterbox" in 4:3 to anamorphic 16:9 I used DVD2AVI to create a .d2v file that TMPGEnc will open. After cutting top and bottom pixels, I run into a problem at step 4 of the Wizard:

    http://www.john-oliver.net/tmpgenc.bmp

I cannot do anything to lower the resulting file size. I've tried changing the bitrate down. It will go up with the arrows, but not down. If I manually change it down, as soon as I do anything else it resets itself to 3000 Unchecking "Auto setting" or going into Expert does ot help. The video is about 90 minutes long and is only video... I demuxed the .mpg before creating the .d2v

go to expert mode and change it from constant bitrate to 2-pass vbr.. that should lower the estimated file size plus give you better picture quality. constant bitrate is inefficient and sucks. and if u wanna get more off go to settings (next to 2-pass vbr) and set the average bitrate lower. get to know the settings in tmpgenc so u can do it manually, cause the wizard sucks

Would be better to continue this in the original thread than make a new one.

We weren't nearly close to "done" and you still have questions to answer.

So I don't know why you started a new thread on this.

FulciLives - I started a new thread because, frankly, you were getting farther and farther off track. I don't know if you were being intentionally cryptic in your responses, if you never actually read my posts and responded on what you though you read, or if I'm simply too dense to follow... whichever way, I wasn't getting any closer to an answer.

Gillies - Thank you for a post that directly addresses my question! I will try your suggestion and see what happens.

I read the last thread and seems to me you dont know quite what to do and are vague,FulciLives gave you very clear answers and you didnt seem to get it,you just need to read the proper guides if it isnt clear to you.

johns0 - You're right... I don't know what to do. I'm not sure how I was "vague", though... I'm explaining everything that I can, and would happily supply more info if asked. Fulci's answers are anything but "clear" to me, when I explicitly say I'm dealing with video only and he starts talking about audio. I would be thrilled with a pointer to "the proper guide", but have been unable to find something that addresses what I want to do. A treatise on video editing and an in-depth explanation of every function of TMPGEnc would, not doubt, allow me to answer my own question... but would also take quite a long time to get through.

So, please... if I'm vague, tell me I'm being vague about, or what more information I can provide. I'm not trying to make anyone guess at an asnwer for me. But I do need to ask for some recognition that all of the concepts here are brand-new to me... I don't know the terminology, so something that's perfectly clear to you is goddledegook to me

Gillies suggestion seems to be leading me down the right road. I'm going to plug away at this for a while now that I'm home. I'll try without the wizard, since it seems to be universally held in low regard.

I do sincerely thank everyone who tries to help, and apologize if I'm not getting what you're saying.
