  1. What are the best value options for buying DVD-R media?
WHen I say value, I mean good price and reliable.
Also, where are the best stores to buy them?

I am thinking about just buying 4x.
And then trying to burn them as 8x. I guess it's possible, right???

    Thanks a lot

Pardon me, but your question is a bit lazy. You have to take your chances with media like us all. Search the forums for info and base your decision on that like everyone else.

  3. I have seached the forum and the guides. But a lot of the posts are old.
And I belive that after a lot of discussions there are a few brands that were in majority approved by users. Answering thsi question, would not only help me but all future users.

    Thanks,

  4. npaulie2000,

That was a very rude what you said in my opinion. His question is very valid. He is correct that most of the posts are old. Things could have changed by now.

There really needs to be a thread like this, where people post where they bought their media, and what there experience was. Then it could be stickied so everyone can see it.

Please be a little more helpful next time. Posts like yours don't help anyone.

New people are always joining here and that's probably the number #1 question.

I haven't bought media online before and have been wondering the same thing as aqualung2003. I usually buy at retail stores. I've been wanting to try out some Prodisc 4x dvd-r media and was wondering what the best place to buy it was.

With the recent Ritek thread about the returned media, the fake Maxell media people have talked about a long time ago, and the Taiyo Yuden media id thread, it makes you start wondering what online sites should you buy from. You wonder what a reputable site to buy media is because you don't want to get bad media. It's pretty scary to buy media sometimes with all of the stories going around.

  5. I am just now digesting all the Ritek recent talk. About a year ago I read the threads and decided to go with Ritek. I have been very happy, and out of my last 50 pack (silver top, purple bottom), I did have about 3 go bad during a burn, although I wonder if it was my software. Before this, I had another 75 discs without one lost.

I have purchased mine from shop4tech.com, as the orders have been placed quickly, delivery also very quick. Their prices I feel are great, so I do not plan on changing on line vendors. Just received a 100 pack, will let you know if I have any problems.

IMO, I feel ProDiscs are a great value/price. I have used the silver top inkjet printables and the white top inkjet printable both from supermediastore. I haven't had any problems with them. The silver topped ones have a iridescent look to them after being printed. Both versions seem to hold the ink very well.

  7. @hydrogen777: I'm not condoning npaulie2000's actions, but there are a couple of things I would like to point out. First you talk about how there is a need for a thread like this so it can be stickied, to share experiences and such. That's what this whole sub-forum is for.
Second, you say that this is the number one question. I do agree with this, it is asked all the time. I can see npaulie2000's point in calling the person lazy, but I personally would have done it with a little more tact. With a simple look in this forum the person can see what people experience with media is.

As for the original poster's questions:
First off, there is a section to the left called "dvd media" this can help a lot with the media to buy for your burner. I once had a liteon and had piss poor burns with CMC media (not that great, I know). But with a NEC the discs burned beautifully. And resellerratings is a good site to find a reliable webstore. That having being said, although supermediastore is not rated that high, I have found them to have good prices, and their service has been great with me (I had to do a return, pain-free).
If you are going to burn 4x@8x, may I suggest using good media to begin with, like Taiyo Yuden, they cost more but would give better results, at higher than rated burn speeds. Others have found Ricoh media to burn decent at 8x as well. As for cheap discs, and burning at 8x (using an NEC) I found that using prodiscs03 generally results in satisfactory burns, but crucial stuff, I never burn faster than rated speeds.

Wow am I ever long winded. This is what usually happens to me when I've only slept 3 hrs in the last three days.
    Blah, blah, blah

  8. What gives the guy asked a straight forward easy to answer question, which in light of the ever changing market is a fair and valid one...
I'm still more than happy with my Printable Riteks Go4's -r's. Burn well, Store well and play on just about anything that plays dvd's.
