Hi everyone.
For the past couple of months, I have become extermely busy and have fallen behind in VHS converting. Anyway, I am looking at methods of converting VHS to DVD again, and while looking, came across an article about dual layer DVD burners that can burn up to 8.5GB. Are these drives worth getting or should I stick with the single layer DVD burners?
Thanks.

Well...I know there are 2-packs of DVD+R DL's out there now, but at $30, it's far beyond not worth it...$30 will get you 50 4x DVD's now if you look around... (Just got authentic PRODISC for $30, and they work beautifully.
17GB $30 Dual Layer Little Support
200gb> $30 DVD+-R Current Standard
Just wait till the end of the year..will be much better support, more of the bugs worked out, and probably be under $2 a disc. -
To be completely honest, the $15 per DL disc is not what's holding me back from a DL burner, it's the uncertainty of compatibility that concerns me.
I do wedding/special event videos, and there have been times where I've had so much video, I've had to use 4 discs. Being able to get all of the video on 1 or 2 discs would certainly be huge for someone in my situation, but what's the point of the DL discs won't work in my client's dvd player?? -
I'm just learning all this DVD stuff myself, but as for them not being compatible with standalones that should not be a problem....I mean almost all DVD movies nowadays are DL....its just we are finally able to write them ourselves.

So the idea should be wait a see how they bear out?
I was looking at this one:
http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/DVDRW_832S.htm
Newegg has it for $99 and it does do 8x where as my old one is only 4x, I don't need to up grade right now but the idea of being able to do dual layers is appealing plus the bump in speed would be nice. -
The price of DL media is still rendering it out of reach for the average home user IMO. I'm going to wait and see what happens regarding compatibility and I'm quite happy to stick to DVD5 @ 8X for another 12-18 months. I guess if you can get the burner at a song now, and you have the need for a DVD burner of some description now, then plan for the future and get one with DL capabilities.
Bear in mind that I am a staunch - supporter, it also worries/annoys me that all the developments in terms of quicker speeds and DL and things like that are happening to +R first
I don't want to start a flame war, but it seems that + is ahead of - in terms of development and has been for the last 6-12 months or so as far as I can tell.If in doubt, Google it. -
I see the children are at play :P
Be nice now kids!
I too will be waiting for other's to adopt dual layer burning if nothing else than to wait to see which MEDIA is the best.

I've heard their current "goal" is 90% compatibility. I'm sticking with my PX-708A for the foreseeable future...
