  1. Hi I am trying to choose between the two DVD burners.
But the Pioneer will cost $22 more for an OEM model. The Optorite will cost $67 for retail package.
    Pioneer is $89 OEM.

If there is not a big difference between the two I will go with the cheapest.

Should I consider a third option???

    I would appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks a lot,

My opinion: Pioneer, never had problems with their burners. I wouldn't be too concerned with OEM VS retail. The retail software included is usually not worth the price. I paid $140US for a Pioneer 104 a year or two ago, and it still works perfectly, albeit slower than my present P106.

Hey man. TULL RULES! Anyway, I have an Optorite drive albeit not that model. Although I have finally gotten my Optorite to work well, I was for a long time unhappy with it. If I could do it all again, I would have maybe spent a bit more and bought the Pioneer or better yet, waited until the Pioneer would be the same price as the Optorite.

I too fell for Optorite's "retail" package. I advise you not. Their included software is crappy and I got an OLD version of NERO along with other programs that I don't use because they are bad or lite-versions. OEM is fine since you can find NERO pretty cheaply anyway and most other useful programs are free (DVDShrink etc.)

Plus, Pioneer supposedly works better with -R media, something to keep in mind since Optorites reportedly work better with +R. As a -R user myself, this is a bit of a bummer although I can still burn perfectly with quality media.

My vote's for Pioneer OEM definetly.

I have the Pioneer 107 and find it's probably the best burner that I've ever had.

Not had an Optorite but they have a reputation of being a cheaper brand.
