guys I need help. I have a MKV file with subtitles. I used decompress.exe to turn it into a avi file with sound but no subs. THen, I took the mkv file and demuxed' the .srt sub. THen, I opened the AVI file with VitrualDubMod. I clicked on filters. and added the Vobsub Text filter. After that, it told me to select the srt file. I did, but then it doesnt let me click ok. Why is it not letting me click ok?

not sure but you don't have to run it through virtualdub to add permanent subtitles.

if you named the srt file the same name as the avi file (eg. xxx.avi and xxx.srt) and you have vobsub installed, the subtitles should appear as you encode the avi file.

i don't think there's a difference whether you're encoding to mpg1 or mpg2, the subs should appear as you encode, but you don't have to listen to me, just keep bumping your thread and maybe someone will respond.

Can you follow me through it through steps? this is what I am doing:
    1) Demux srt from mkv
2)decompress mkv to avi (BUT THE AUDIO isnt sync'd wiht the video)
3)avi doesnt have subs, but Open it and subs will still come because of the .srt
Now, how would i encode it to vcd/mpg WITH the subs?

  9. ok let me try this one more time.

    you've demuxed the srt
    you decompressed mkv to avi

now if you named the srt the same name as the AVI and then feed the avi into tmpgenc and convert to mpg1, THE SUBS WILL APPEAR AS YOU CONVERT!!!!!!!!!!!!

but if you still don't believe me, then keep bumping you're thread. I'm done.
Jesus, i feel like i'm talking to a brick wall.

JEEZ!!! Calm down DAFREAK don't be such a jerk. No they wont "just" appear unless you have specific programs installed and running in the background (i.e. Vobsub) and most of the times the subs will be out of sync using that method. Bman try using the TextSub filter that comes with VobSub. Then frameserve with Virtualdub to TMPGenc. That should solve the problem. TextSub is alot more friendlier to .srt files than VobSub.

As for you DAFREAK Take a long walk off a short pier already. The guy asked for help and you just decided to berate him after he didn't accept your completely flawed advice. And before you start flailing your little sausage fingers typing a comeback. Wipe the Arby's sauce from your chin and come to the realization that just naming an .srt file the same as the .avi file does not mean that TMPGenc will automatically hard-sub it to an mpeg file.

    Moron.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

wow thanks for the tip caseycomb, but I think i mentioned vobsub in the second post of this thread.

if you named the srt file the same name as the avi file (eg. xxx.avi and xxx.srt) and you have vobsub installed, the subtitles should appear as you encode the avi file.

    PS>I don't like arby's.
