  1. I've been looking for a DV camera that can also capture pictures, but they usually just take a still frame and record it for 6 seconds onto the dv tape. Is there a dv camera that actually put's jpeg pictures onto a flash-memory card?

My Canon ZR70mc does. Does stills to tape or SD/MMC and does the 6sec w/audio to tape. Also does the 10sec w/audio motion jpeg shorts.

My panasonic records to MMC/SD. Also lets you play back MP3 from SD (not standard MMC). I have been able to get usuable prints (5x7cm) from the stills after a little photoshop cleanup, but they are not comparable to a dedicated digital still camera. If it came down to a choice between the all-singing-all-dancing video camera, or cheaper video camera and dedicated digital still camera, I'd go the latter.

I was always under the impression that you'd have a hard time finding one that DIDN'T also have a photo mode of some sort.

I would suggest to buy a digital camera for stills.
Most of the ones I have seen from DV camcorders are awful.

Pretty much all consumer DV cameras do, however there are still a lot that write the stills to tape only. These tend to be cheaper than those that write to memory cards.

Yep...you're right. My dad has one and I totally forgot. It's a new Sony but it's only a Hi-8 model.
