    I was having trouble with tmpgenc (freezing after 2 hours of encoding)so I downloaded the latest version of directx
    (8.1) now at least I get an error message saying tmpg caused invalid page fault in quartz.dll
    anyone know what I can do?
    I have the latest quartz.dll file

    So that's where this thing comes from. I got the same error (only after I've installed v2) about the quartz.dll. Found two of them loaded, one in my windows directory and one in my windows\system dir. I'll be getting rid of the older one.

    I simply rebooted after this and haven't had the problem in a couple of weeks now.
