  1. I have a TEAC DV-W58E Burner which came with my Dell computer. I don't know the OEM of this drive. So does anyone know if this drive has the bitsetting feature? If so how can I get the firmware to do this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  2. rpc1.org says it could be a BenQ drive.

If you burn with Nero check if it gives you the option to bitset
otherwise try to bitset with DVDInfo PRO

  3. Thanks for the info. I tried using DVDInfo PRO to do this it says "Error, this drive does not support bitsetting" So this could not be a BenQ drive right?

  4. Aha its a dual layer drive.

Then try the LiteOn Bitsetting Tool, it might be a LiteOn

  5. I tried that too now. It did not work. It says the drive does not support bit setting. So it's not a LiteOn drive right? Can it be a Nec or pioneer? Any ideas?

  6. There seems to be two versions of the DV-W58E, one supporting DVD+R DL and one older model that doesn't support DVD+R DL.
The drive doesn't look like an OEM Lite-On or NEC. Actually the drive doesn't look like any other OEM drive I know based on how the specs, drive and firmware looks like so if it doesn't support bitsetting out of the box I don't think it's much you can do about it.

  7. Do you happen to know the OEM of the DV-W58E version that supports dvd + r DL?

  8. No, the hardware of the DL version is probably the same as of the non-DL version as the rest of the specs are identical.

  9. Hey thanks for the info. I just called up dell Tech support and exchanged my Teac DV-W58E drive for a NEC DVD +RW drive which they also offer for dimension 8300. I hope that can do the trick. Is Nec better than Teac? I hope I didn't make a mistake

  10. Hey I just received my New NEC ND-2100A. I installed it today. I noticed on the to side of the Teac DV-W58E drive there was some labels. Some in japanese and the model and serial numbers of the drive. I noticed on the label that had japanese words under them was BENQ technologies. So I guess this drive was a BenQ drive which is also Dual layer upgradable. I don't know why DVDInfoPro said that this drive do not support bitsetting.
