  1. The quest for good media has made me notice some things that never crossed my mind before.
Reliable brands use various manufacturers for their media while using the same ID. It is easy to find Verbatim media made in taiwan and Singapore and both media has the MCC ID. I don't think Mitsubishi has factories in Taiwan and Singapore. I've bought Sony media made in Singapore with the MCC ID, so I think those taiwanese discs are fake.
Reliable brands sell their media made by respectable manufacturers and suddenly they switch to less reliable makers without informing the costumer. For instance, I bought many TDK media made by TY and RICOH and suddenly it is now made by an unreliable manufacturer like CMC.

I wonder why brands use such strategies. I've always paid the extra pennies they ask for their media and I feel stolen when I think I'm buying quality media and I find out it is made by the same manufacturers that are known for selling unreliable media

Brands should sell their products in several flavors in order to give custumers the chance to choose what fits their needs
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks

Have you noticed that a slight tax increase costs you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents?

I *think* they're made by CMC w/ w/ MCC materials. So they're MCC quality discs, just put together by CMC.

Short answer: It's a cutthroat industry and most consumers don't know any better. The Taiwan Verbatim DVD-Rs are sold locally at Sams and a buddy of mine uses them. They appear to works as well as any media. I may pick up a spindle next time I'm there and check them out for myself (decent price for retail, $42.59/50 pk cake plus tax).
