  1. I authored a mini-DVD or DVD on CD for my wife’s boss. Then when I tested it it worked on my Liteon LVD-2001. However when I gave it to one of my friends to test it failed on all 3 of his DVD players. When I looked it up I realized that the mini-dvd has a very low compatibility rating. I am aiming for the best quality possible on a CD with a high compatibility for PC and DVD players while trying to keep media costs low.

Do CD(S) have a book type? If so - If I burned a min-DVD (DVD on cd) and set book type to DVD-rom would the compatibility increase?

I am aiming for compatibility for the non savvy pc user. So far I did a VCD but was hoping for better quality.

  2. No, there's no bitsetting changer needed for CD-R's. But Mini-DVD don't have a high compatibility to DVD-players, but DO have a really high compatibility to PC! So, if I were you I'd buy a DVD+R(W) burner with a bitsetting changer! It may costs a bit but you do have a high compatibility!
Can you see what no one sees, through all the fake but showing me's?

  3. I have a lite-on 401S +RW with bitsetting firmware. The question I had is could I get away with bit setting and burning to a CD. If so would it how compatible would it be to DVD players then. I would try it myself by player can play mini-dvds so it would prove nothing. If there is a chance it would work then I would burn for my friend with 3 differant players to try.

  4. I have the same burner (LiteOn LDW-401s). I don't know what bitsetting utility you use, but mine (LiteON Booktype utility v.1.04) says "Not supported" when it detects a CD-R. I don't think it's possible to set booktype for Mini-DVDs. You can try to change booktype with Kprobe2, but I'd imagine you'd get the same results.
