  4. I have noted similar problems with my Hiteker DVD which I understand is the same player sold in New Zealand and Australia. However my problems were more with SVCDs than VCDs. With those turning PBC off with the remote then enables me to play the disk. Also noted recently problems very similar to those described that were cleared up after I put a CD cleaner disk (with brush) which seemed to fix the tracking problem.

  5. There's a button on your remote. It says PBC. Try hitting the button and then pressing play on the remote. I notice I have to do this with newgroup releases. Oh yeah, PBC=Play Back Control...I believe.

  11. i have the same Apex player. when that problem happened with me i had to lower the bitrate for encodeing. this cleared it up for me. i now encode video at 480x480, cbr-1700, and audio is 128 stereo. if i go any higher it won't play correctly. what speed are you burning? i read that a lower burning speed is better but i can't confirm that.

  12. Do not burn any VCD over 8x, CD-R burners burn a different way at 10x and higher, I have seen problems when I or others burn them at a higher burn rate than 8x, also I have the APEX 660 and the 600 and I play VCD at 2520 all the time perfect and SVCD at 2520 also with no problems, if I burn at 8x with my HP burner.
There are two types of ways to burn, CLV and CAV one way(which I just can't remember) is for 8x and slower the other is for 10x and faster. I have even burned a VCD at 2800 and it played on the APEX 600, at 3000 it skipped sometimes and at 3500 choked completely.

  17. Hello,

Don't know whether it helps but I do have an (firmware upgraded) Apex 600 and it plays SVCDs fine in all bitrate. Only when the rate gets over 2500 I get skipping problems. But 2100 is what I do for standard and gives perfect results.

  18. Sorry, I'm no expert when it comes to DVD machines, what's this firmware thing? And how do you upgrade it?
And this rate thing, how do you adjust it or view it? is it in the menu/setup screen?

  19. XNeo_Mp3erX, those settings i mentioned are all done when you encode. you do encode your vids don't you? or do you get them from someone else? the burning speed is done when you burn the file. how are you makeing your vcd's? i am able to view my vcd's with the pbc on. so i don't know if thats the factor or not. firmware is a program that is read by your dvd player directly from a cdr. it upgrades some of the settings in your dvd player, i think. i havn't done mine. i guess thats why i can't play svcd's very well. i could be wrong but the wrong firmware for your dvd player can be a bad thing causing your player to not function properly and is irreversable, but don't quote me on that. i am not overly noledgable on firmware.....another reason i havn't upgraded.....

  22. XNeo_Mp3erX, in the begining you say it burned fine. what are you burning? what is your process from begining to end on how you make your vcd's? i ask because you don't know what encoding is. are you just takeing an mpeg that you downloaded or captured and burning it to a cdr? these things i need to know in order to help.........

  24. how are you obtaining your Mpeg file? capturing, downloading, ripping?
    Quote Quote
  25. download in .mpeg form from morpheus
    Quote Quote
  26. what is the quality of the downloaded Mpeg. after you download it you should encode it and make the Mpeg file vcd compatable. just remember if the file before you encode is crappy then encoding will not improve the quality. that question gets asked alot here. for encodeing look under the HOW TO section to the left under CONVERT. that will explain how to take your files and encode them. it appears to me that your burning is correct you just need to encode it for vcd. my preference of encoder is TMPGE. its free and probably one of the best. i can only express the importance of reading alot of the info.
    Quote Quote
  27. wait so i encode using nero??or that program of yours?
    Quote Quote
  28. you encode with TMPGE and burn with NERO. TMPGE is in the TOOLS section to the left..after you get it look in the HOW TO section in CONVERT. It will tell you how to encode vid's. Just look for the one that says how to convert to VCD with TMPGE................
