  3. What am I going to do? Virtual Dub would not take ASF. Even patched, it still gives me some kind of error.

    See if TMPGEnc Plus! will load it. If it does, have it convert to AVI. You still will have quality loss.

  5. What if I decide to merge the ASF files instead so I do not lose quality? What program out there will allow me to merge ASF files?

    I works sometimes, sometimes not.

    My experience when it works, convert a 32 mb ASF file to AVI. AVI is now 250 mb. Convert that to mpeg 1 and the lowest of low I can find without having that stupid DivX logo at the bottom and it still comes out around 95 MB and much worse quality than the original. Using other codecs the size just keeps going up. Heck you can even "compress" it to 550 mb with crappy qulaity if you want

    I have never been so lost in my life as trying to convert Windows media files.

    You'll see. It's a conspiracy.
