hi. i am trying to record a dvd movie to my vhs. i had connected all the necessary wires and can even watch the movie thru the vhs output monitor. when i press the REC button the image on the tv goes dark then goes back to normal then goes back to normal and so on. bottom line, the recording is not good. what could be wrong? dvd player output video problem? copyright issue?
thanks in advance for the help.

It probably is a copyright issue. It sounds like Macrovision.

a copyright issue? does it mean that even if the the dvd is connected to my vhs and it would not record it properly? maybe you're right. thanks.

The Macrovision function is periodically pushing the brightness level up and down in order to make the recorded output unwatchable. DVD players were made to do that as a form of copy protection.

There are "Macrovision killers" available, along with the fact that some older VCRs can't see it. TBCs filter it out quite nicely. Camcorders with pass through have TBC circuits as well. So, in the end, Macrovision has outlived its usefulness.

  7. What you described is the effect of Macrovision. To eliminate this, first try the DVD Hacks page with the make and model of your player. If that fails, you can try either of these products listed below...

The VS-8000 Video Stabilizer removes copy protection when tranferring DVD or VHS to VHS only.

The Clarifier removes all forms of copy protection when tranferring VHS and DVD in any direction.
