I am curious about all of this talk about dropped frames. I have seen very few and typically when the video tape itself is crummy. Am I missing something on this?
It seems to be a common complaint....

PS I have a a canopus unit, with a 7810 TBC in front of it on a Athlon 1700+.

me too...never had any problem.
use a canon camcorder for passtrough conversion for analog inputs, and perfect, no dropped frames or audio video sync...
they must do something wrong..... -
There must be hundreds (if not thousands!) of posts here about dropped frames - and those reporting the least seem to use either Canopus or pass through-
And even pass through can have audio sync problems - that leaves -
Canopus!
(Or Canopus + TBC for really bad sources)
