  1. Hi All,

This may seem a bit weird to you but I need to do this for a presentation-style DVD.

I have some VOBs that I need to grab one frame of, then make it into a ten second or so MPEG that matches exactly the original VOB (color, quality, framing, etc.) so that basically, I need to do this with no re-processing of the MPEG.

Can Womble do this? I have many tools at my disposal including TMPGEnc, Cleaner XL and Procoder but to do what I am trying to do, I think these would need to reprocess the MPEG.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

I know Womble's Mpeg Video Wizard allows you to export a single frame, but I don't know what format etc. But once you get the still, MVW allows you to "stretch" it to any length (in time) you want.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. MVW will export as an mpeg, only the changed parts will be re-encoded.

  4. I tried it in WMV. I tried to bring the one frame-length MPEG back in but it won't let me stretch it. How is that done?

    Thanks,

    Here is one way:
    1) right-click on output monitor and select "Save Image As..."
    2) Select bitmap as image format (also works with jpg) as save image to file.
    3) Now, drag the image into the time line. By default, this gives a 5 second image (you can change default under Tools Options).
    4) To extend it to 10 seconds, zoom up on it and drag the right (or left) edge. You could also right-click on the image in the timeline and select Location and Duration".

I don't know if this will do what you want, because I am ignorant about the resolution and size of the captured image compared to what the mpg format is. I also noticed the right-click menu has "stretch" selected. Not sure what this does.

Another method might be to save it as an mpg, then drag it into the timeline. But this doesn't let you stretch it to a longer time. But you could copy/paste it a bunch of times to give you the correct length (i.e., copy/paste once to get 2 frames, then copy/paste the two frames to get four frames, ... 8, 16 ... etc.).

  6. The key here is to be able to match the original MPEG so the output to image wouldn't work.

I have thought about your second method already and I believe I will be better off going back to the source material and re-encoding the whole puppy.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though. I do appreciate it!

    Take care,

I'm pretty ignorant about the differences you are talking about. I would have thought that if you output to a bitmap, that you would get the same pixels as the MPEG. If it isn't too difficult to explain, could you explain it to me?
